Joanne Levy Prewitt

Joanne Levy-Prewitt has been writing "College Bound," a weekly advice column for students and their parents, for the San Francisco Chronicle since October 2005.

Levy-Prewitt is an independent college admissions adviser working with high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area since 2003. She holds a California multiple subject teaching credential, and also writes short fiction and teaches summer writing workshops to local students.

A native of Los Angeles, Levy-Prewitt earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from San Diego State University in 1983, and her teaching credential from St. Mary's College of California in 1994. She completed her certificate in College and Career Advising at the University of California, Berkeley in May 2004. She is a member of the Western Association for College Admission Counseling and the Higher Education Consultants Association.

She has one son, who is in college, and she lives with her husband in the Bay Area.
