The Origin of Condorito

In the 1940s, a young Chilean cartoonist, Rene "Pepo" Rios created Condorito. Desiring to depict the hard-working common man of the region. Pepo created an endearing character named the Little Condor — half-man, half-condor; an energetic, colorful, resourceful, clever, multifaceted, Hispanic "everyman."

The strip quickly caught on and soon Condorito had his own magazine, first as a bi-annual, then as a monthly, and finally, due to demand, as a biweekly. Today, Condorito is the best-known cartoon character in the Spanish-speaking world, with fans throughout the Americas; in fact, over 82 million readers consider Condorito an important part of their daily lives.

Mr. Rios died in 2000, but Condorito lives on through the talented staff of writers and artists of INVERZAG S.A. that produce a weekly magazine and a daily strip that is published in more than 120 newspapers in Latin America and USA.
