Kansas City, MO (02/27/2006) Aaron McGruder will take six months off from his popular comic strip, The Boondocks, the story of a group of African-American city kids adjusting to life in white suburbia.
In a letter to be mailed today to newspaper editors who carry his strip, he writes:
Dear Editor:
I have decided to take six months off from The Boondocks comic strip. Every well needs occasional refreshing and I hope that this fall you will agree that the time away from the demands of deadlines has served the strip, your readers and me.
To be on your comic pages for the past seven years has been a privilege. I thank you for that and for your patience as I explored our world through the eyes of Huey, Riley and their grandfather.
Most appreciatively,
Aaron McGruder
McGruger is declining interviews.
The last dailies will be for the week of March 20 and the last Sunday is for March 26. McGruder will resume the strip in October, but newspapers may continue to run classic Boondocks reruns.
McGruder began syndicating the comic strip with Universal Press Syndicate in April 1999. The Boondocks currently appears in about 350 dailies and Sundays.
