Kansas City, MO (05/12/2006) Mark Tatulli’s new pantomime comic strip, LIO, makes its debut in more than 100 newspapers on Monday, May 15. Syndicated by Universal Press, LIO’s client list includes the Los Angeles Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Houston Chronicle, Chicago Sun-Times, Denver’s Rocky Mountain News, The St. Petersburg Times, Detroit Free Press and The Seattle Times.
“This launch has proven to be one of our most successful ones, both in terms of numbers and the heavy hitters on the list,” says Lee Salem, editor of Universal Press Syndicate. “Starting in more than 100 of the most influential newspapers in the country is quite an accomplishment for a new strip and indicates a continuing interest to follow.”
“Mark Tatulli knows how to deliver a punch line as well as anyone in this business, and in this strip he even delivers without words,” adds John Vivona, vice president of sales for Universal Press Syndicate. “The fact that there is no dialogue and that everything is art-driven is exceptional. If there were ever a strip that knew no demographic boundaries, this is it.”
Universal Press also thinks the strip has great potential internationally because there are no language barrier. So far, Brussels newspaper Bel De Morgen has picked up LIO.
Tatulli is also the cartoonist of Heart of the City, which Universal Press Syndicate continues to syndicate in about 100 newspapers nationwide.
