Jim Borgman Joins Universal Press Syndicate

Kansas City, MO  (12/21/2006)  Universal Press Syndicate will syndicate Jim Borgman’s Pulitzer-Prize-winning editorial cartoons beginning Jan. 1, 2007. Borgman’s editorial cartoons were previously syndicated by King Features, where he established a client list of about 200 newspapers.

Since 1976, Jim Borgman has satirized politicians and newsmakers as the editorial cartoonist for The Cincinnati Enquirer. He won the prestigious Pulitzer in 1991 and the coveted Reuben Award in 1993, which is given to the most outstanding cartoonist of the year by the National Cartoonists Society. He is also co-creator with Jerry Scott of the comic strip, "Zits."

“Jim is one of those editorial cartoonists who provide purpose and meaning to both the art form and editorial pages, and we’re delighted to represent his work,” said Lee Salem, editor and president of Universal Press Syndicate.

Borgman was born Feb. 24, 1954, in Cincinnati and is a 1976 graduate of Kenyon College where he graduated summa cum laude with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Borgman was hired to begin as the Enquirer's daily cartoonist one week after graduation, on the strength of the weekly cartoon he had drawn for the Kenyon Collegian.

In the summer of 1996, Borgman teamed up with Scott (co-creator of "Baby Blues") to create a new feature. The result of their venture is the wildly popular comic strip "Zits," which chronicles the life and times of 15-year-old Jeremy Duncan.
