Trudeau to Receive 2007 Ken Book Award

Kansas City, MO.  (05/01/2007)  Garry Trudeau’s book, The War Within: One More Step at a Time published by Andrews McMeel Publishing will be honored at the ninth annual Ken Book Awards breakfast on Thursday, May 3, at the Yale Club in Manhattan. The event is sponsored by the Kenneth Johnson Memorial Research Library at the National Alliance on Mental Illness of New York City Metro (NAMI-NYC Metro).

Five other authors will be recognized along with Trudeau. Pete Earley will be honored for Crazy: A Father's Search through America's Mental Health Madness, published by Putman. Eric Kandel will be given kudos for In Search of Memory: The Emergence of a New Science of Mind, published by Norton. Susan Gingerich and Kim Mueser will be honored for The Complete Family Guide to Schizophrenia, published by Guilford, and Katharine Noel’s Halfway House, published by Atlantic Monthly Press, will also be recognized.

All 2007 Ken awardees are selected based on their outstanding literary contributions to a better understanding of mental illness.

The Ken Book Awards are presented each spring in memory of Kenneth Johnson, the son of Patricia Warburg Cliff. Cliff founded the Kenneth Johnson Memorial Research Library in 1996. It is housed at the NAMI-NYC Metro offices and includes hundreds of books, journals and videos, and is host to book and poetry clubs
