"Tom The Dancing Bug" Wins AAN Best Cartoon Award

New York  (06/19/2007)  "Tom the Dancing Bug," the weekly comic strip by Ruben Bolling, won the 2007 Best Cartoon Award from the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies (AAN)’s annual conference in Portland.

This is "Tom the Dancing Bug's" third win of the AAN Best Cartoon Award (it also won in 2002 and 2003). "Tom the Dancing Bug" is the only comic to have won the award more than once, and it is the only comic to have been a finalist in every year the award has been given.

"This award is objective, verifiable proof that 'Tom the Dancing Bug' is at least 23.1% better than any other comic strip,” said Bolling good-humorly. “Thank God for awards, or we would never know for sure whether something is better than something else."

"Tom the Dancing Bug" is distributed by Universal Press Syndicate. It can be seen at www.tomthedancingbug.com.

Bolling started “Tom the Dancing Bug” while a student at Harvard Law School, from which he graduated in 1987. He launched the strip professionally in a small New York City newspaper in 1990 and was self-syndicated until Universal Press Syndicate signed it up in June 1997.

He is the author of three “Tom the Dancing Bug” compilation books: “Thrilling Tom the Dancing Bug Stories” (Andrews McMeel, 2004), “All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned From My Golf-Playing Cats” (NBM Publishing, 1997) and “Tom the Dancing Bug” (HarperCollins Publishers, 1992).
