Dan Piraro was born in the latter 20th century in the northern hemisphere. His cartoon, BIZARRO, has been syndicated since 1985 and has gathered a steadily growing and rabidly fanatic fan base. Published daily in over 200 markets in more than 10 countries, BIZARRO was named BEST CARTOON PANEL OF THE YEAR in 1999 and 2000 by The National Cartoonists Society. He has published 10 collections of his work and a book of BIZARRO Sunday comics. He has also published one book of prose, Bizarro Among the Savages, in which he recounts an unusual book tour he organized in 1996. The tour was entirely financed by his fans, who chauffeured him around and offered him lodging in their homes throughout the entire trip. Dan lives in Dallas, from where he travels extensively, raises two daughters, and commits very few crimes of any consequence. He is known to be polite and have very fresh breath.

Bizarro Cartoons and Anecdotes About Them

Dan’s talks include slides of some of his cartoons and anecdotes about them, where the ideas came from, who wrote him what ridiculous complaint letter afterward, what celebrity called wanting to buy the original, why a given editor refused to print it.

Symbols in His Cartoons

Dan gets boatloads of mail about the recurring symbols included in his cartoons, and he will explain what they mean. (Each is a part of an elaborate system of what he calls the road to Ultimate Bizarro Awareness, a gentle spoof of philosophy, astrology and new age spirituality.)

Poetry and Song

An experienced performer, Dan often sings humorous songs and recites unusual poems he's written. He also includes an occasional visit from his two dogs, Steve and Bruno, portrayed by furry hand puppets. Dan enjoys interacting with the audience, singing directly to specific members, or using clairvoyance to read their minds to hilarious effect.

Fine Art

Dan is an accomplished painter and time permitting may show a few slides of his fine art, which are large oil paintings for which he has won numerous awards. At the end of his presentation he is always willing to take questions from the audience. Dan is a mixture of artist and entertainer and is sure to bring an audience to tears from laughing at his BIZARRO art and humor.
